Stop LinkedIn from Using Your Data for AI Training: A Guide to Opting Out
LinkedIn’s updated privacy policy lets users opt out of future AI data usage, but past data will still be used.
If you’re using LinkedIn, there are steps you should know. You can stop the platform from using your data to train AI. LinkedIn earlier admitted they had been using user’s data for AI training without consent. Unfortunately, there’s still no way to prevent your past data from being used in training. Nonetheless, you can now opt out of future data usage.
As of November 20th, LinkedIn updated its privacy policy. The new policy explains more clearly how your personal data is used to power AI on the platform. According to the updated policy, LinkedIn uses your data to develop and train AI models. They also personalize services and gain insights through AI.
This data is collected whenever you use LinkedIn’s AI features. This includes writing a post, adjusting your preferences, or simply using the platform. The data is stored until you remove any AI-generated content. LinkedIn also recommends using its data access tool to erase any past activities if needed.
Be aware if you’ve provided personal data to any AI-powered feature. It shows up in AI outputs. LinkedIn claims they’re working to reduce personal data in training, but there’s still a risk.
You can object to the use of your data for LinkedIn AI models by submitting a Data Processing Objection Form.
LinkedIn also warns that AI-generated content is inaccurate. It is your responsibility to verify any information before sharing it.
You can turn off the “data for generative AI improvement” choice by going to your account settings. Then select “Data privacy.” Opt out of future AI training there.
However, users in the European Economic Area or Switzerland are already protected by stricter privacy laws. They don’t need to opt out.
